Over the year, our participants have been writing songs and recording the tracks at More Music. Many of the songs were written with a climate action theme to be a part of the Three Degrees Festival, our environmentally focussed community festival that took place at More Music on 5 July. The album is an incredible document of the creativity of the participants, their originality and the talent of the local young grassroots music scene.
The music has been created as part of our weekly young music sessions. Our sessions are inclusive and creative opportunities for young people to access the support and guidance they need to create the music that matters to them in a safe and well resourced space:
Stages – Band and solo artist night, learn to play in bands, create new music, learn how to perform, rehearse and play gigs (ages 11-18, Thursdays 6pm-8pm)
Vocal Night and Sing It Out – Singing and songwriting night for young people interested in developing their voices as singers, rappers and beatboxing, also includes a more relaxed singing session to support positive mental health (ages 11-18, Wednesdays 5pm-7pm)
Bay Youth Voices – Primary age singing session for children who love to sing or want to start (6-11 years old, Wednesdays 5pm-6pm)
Unique Beatz – Creative music making for disabled and learning disabled young people, in partnership with Unique Kidz & Co and open to all (ages 14-25, Mondays 4pm-5pm)
Our young producers group Eco Collective (open to 14-21 year olds, Mondays 6pm-8pm) created the album artwork and helped to organise the album launch gig on 11 July, which was part of Morecambe Music Festival and attracted an audience of over 150 people to watch 11 bands and artists perform on stage across the night.
