More Media Collective Backstage at Highest Point Festival

Posted by More Music on 25 May 2022

There was an air of excitement as Highest Point returned to its usual May slot in the 2022 festival calendar. Taking place over four sun-soaked days, some of the music industry’s biggest names descended upon Lancaster to perform in front of thousands of ticket holders. Acts including Richard Ashcroft, Clean Bandit, Kaiser Chiefs, Example, The Lottery Winners and Tom Zanetti performed across four stages in the beautiful setting of Williamson Park.

More Music’s young producers group, More Media Collective, were lucky enough to have backstage access to the festival, running the pop up ‘Shed Stage’ whilst up and coming DJ Logan secured a slot on the amazing Woods Stage.

We caught up with Gavin, Jack, Safe and Logan from More Media Collective to hear more about their experiences at Lancaster’s biggest festival.

Tell us about your Highest Point experience?

Gavin: Highest Point was awesome, there was some really great music in a fantastic location, plus we were blessed with scorching sun!

Jack: The atmosphere, weather and people we’re all perfect and made the whole festival a lovely place to be.

Saffi: I had a great time at Highest Point, gained practical experience running and organising a stage without access to power which was fun.

Logan: My Highest Point experience was one of the best experiences. I had an amazing time and even secured a DJ booking after my set in the Woods.

What did you learn from being behind the scenes at the festival?

Gavin: I learnt about helping create a music hub for the duration of the weekend, and an enjoyable atmosphere where people could chill and listen to a variety of local musicians.

Jack: Having artist passes made running everything a lot smoother and really gave a chance to explore the festival in a free way.

Saffi: Having access to all areas was interesting and made me feel more included behind the scenes.

Tell us about your experience of running the stage / performing at Highest Point

Jack: Running a stage was fun especially with the shed we were given, allowing us to decorate and present ourselves in a fun way that people would come along just to see what was happening or whilst they were getting food and staying a while between main stage sets.

What have you gained from this experience that you could use in the future?

Gavin: I’m looking forward to playing a bigger part in future with organising the More Music hub in the park, and possibly with advertising it to a wider reception and raising its profile. Massive thanks to all involved!

Jack: Great experience running a stage as part of a big festival and fitting in and adapting to the acts on the main stage. It would be nice to do this again, and maybe get some slots on the main stage for our local acts.

Saffi: The opportunity to perform at a festival in front of a large audience. Learning how to mold my set into suitable variations for the type of gig/audience.

What were your highlights / best bits?

Gavin: My highlight was definitely Saturday afternoon while the FA cup final was on, which distracted a fair portion of the festival but resulted in the remaining folk chilling around the More Music shed being very appreciative.
Our crew played some fantastic sets to Highest Pointers basking in the glorious sunshine.

Jack: My highlights were the sun and people coming along to watch people play, sing along and even joining in at some points

Saffi: Overall I enjoyed the whole thing as an experience. My highlight would be getting to enjoy watching my friends perform.

Logan: Some of the best bits were DJing at the Woods stage which was an amazing opportunity that I’m thankful to have had after having only busking at the festival for the past two years.

Thank you from More Media Collective for the opportunity and we can’t wait until next year’s Highest Point!
