This holiday season just past, Susan Griffin, a member of More Music’s Seagull Cafe, designed and created four stunning Christmas cards in order to bring a greater awareness to the group’s profile, as well as giving back to the group in her own way. 

The Seagull Cafe is a weekly community singing group for over 60s where participants can have a singalong, a socialise, and enjoy a lovely bit of afternoon tea in the company of others. Funded by Spirit of 2012, the Seagull Cafe project was designed to help people in the community feel happier and healthier, creating not only a place to socialise and have fun, but an environment that promotes health and wellbeing through the action of singing and participating in musical activity. 

This Singing for Health project has undoubtedly had a positive impact on Susan, who has been a member of the group since the summer. When asked about the Seagull Cafe, she said that ‘the songs bring joy out in the people who come, it sparks memories and their want to share them, for some people they are limited by illness and distance from family, this is a place to socialise that they might not have otherwise’; a testament to the effect that the group has on its participants. 

We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Susan for her incredible card designs as well as the fundraising that came with them! Susan’s cards helped raise £200 for our Seagulls, money that will go towards the group and their future activities. We’d also like to thank everyone who purchased one of Susan’s cards, this wouldn’t have been possible without you.
