We’re excited to announce that the two projects to receive ‘Innovate’ funding in 2019 are Jubacana’ Music Mentors and TramShed’s Memories Through Music.

TramShed’s Memories through Music

TramShed Theatre Company are delighted to be working in partnership with More Music after securing funding with the organisation to deliver a new inclusive project entitled ‘Memories through Music’.

The project will enable TramShed the opportunity to offer young people between the age of 18-25 years, training in inclusive theatre in Blackpool. They will then as a team, deliver specialised workshops to adults living with dementia, building on their community and giving those at risk of exclusion the chance to access the arts.

TramShed Theatre Company is an inclusive organisation offering performing arts to any individual across the North West, no matter what their background, experience or need. As a charity, TramShed rely heavily on local support to be able to continue their work. Funding of this nature is crucial for TramShed, to enable the organisation to continue its work.

Zac Hackett, Artistic Director said: “We could not reach out to the young people in Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde without the support of More Music. This grant will go on to change the lives of so many young people, giving them new skills and enabling them to access the arts fully.

Inclusive theatre is a very powerful art form, which allows individuals to challenge themselves, develop friendships, and above all else work in a fully inclusive environment. Memories through Music will also give TramShed an opportunity to work closely with adults living with Dementia. Music is a powerful art form and we are excited to see how the project develops throughout the next few months.”

Jubacana’s Music Mentors

Jubacana currently offers weekly workshops for young people aged 8-18, and in 2020 will launch a 5-7s class. The Innovate funding will also enable the team to expand their current knowledge of delivering music making activities to younger children.

Holly Prest, Director added:  “We are over the moon to have been selected for More Music’s Innovate Fund. This funding will go towards developing young musicians in Jubacana at various stages of their musical journeys.

A huge part of our work focusses on guiding young people to explore their creativity and leadership skills through directing, composing and peer-to-peer teaching. Our teenage mentors and up-and-coming music leaders will benefit from personalised training and mentoring to further their ambitions of forging careers in the arts.”

Jubacana consistently seek connections with other organisations to share our music practice, learn from others, and collaborate. The Innovate Fund will allow an exciting collaboration with More Music connecting even more young people across the North West and beyond.

Our Artistic Director, Loz Kaye said “I’m really pleased we can support these excellent and inclusive projects. There is a real emphasis on supporting access, wellbeing, creating a lasting legacy, and young people’s place in the wider community all of which are core to More Music’s mission.”

‘Innovate’ was set up to fund musically inclusive projects in Lancashire, promoting excellent practice for work with young people aged 0-25. ‘Innovate’ is about supporting the chance for every child and young person to have access to music, and about training practitioners being able to offer young people quality experiences.
