It was a glorious evening at Morecambe’s prestigious Midland hotel and Shannon and Niran, members of More Media Collective were about host the Lancaster District CVS volunteer achievement awards 2023. Before they took to the stage to host the 2 hour long ceremony alongside the Mayor of Lancaster who would be presenting the awards, we asked them some questions…

What have you learnt so far from this experience preparing to host the Volunteer Awards?

 

Shannon – ‘I have learnt that confidence isn’t always necessary at the beginning, it’s a skill you can learn as you go and it’s ok to be nervous because thats how people learn and grow.’

Niran – ‘I have learnt how to deal with a clients needs, take instruction and work to a brief.

It has also been a great opportunity to learn about sectors of the voluntary and charitable sectors of the community in the area and also how to act appropriately in a sophisticated environment.’

Why do you think this event is important?

 

Niran – ‘It’s really good for the community and a great celebration of the voluntary sector. Alot of the time, volunteers are overlooked and it’s important that people have an opportunity to have a voice and are rewarded for all their work.’

Shannon – ‘It allows people to come together and discuss the achievements of the year and how the work done by the all the amazing volunteers has benefited the community.’

Shannon and Niran did a fabulous job of hosting the awards ceremony, held to honour and and celebrate the selfless efforts of extraordinary volunteers who have dedicated their time and energy to creating positive change the the community.

We had some lovely feedback from Mark Waddington, Connecting Communities Development officer – Lancaster District CVS, who said:  ‘so many people said what a great job those two did, how impressed they were by them, how much they enjoyed their presentation and their ad libs and the way they carried themselves and worked together’.

Sam Pritchard, who set up Fighting Loneliness One Village at a Time and was nominated for the Roger Sherlock award said ‘Please do pass on my huge thanks to the More Music team, who were absolutely brilliant ??’

An attendee said  ‘…I could never have done that at their age. We were so impressed with them,  we were really pleased they attended last night and that they enjoyed it immensely’.

More Music was also very proud of Jack Boyton, another member of More Media Collective, who was nominated for ‘Young Volunteer of the year’ for his work selflessly supporting and inspiring young musicians in their development as songwriters, bands and artists.

Well done to Shannon, Niran and Jack! More Music is eternally grateful for all the work done by our amazing volunteers, and thank you to Lancaster District CVS for giving our young people this amazing opportunity to develop new skills and build confidence.
